Today, we are grateful to share a meaningful step forward in that commitment: Nimble Counselling now offers direct billing through Sun Life.
For many people across British Columbia, navigating insurance claims can be one of the most overwhelming parts of beginning therapy. Sorting receipts, submitting forms, and waiting for reimbursement can add pressure to a process that is meant to bring relief. With Sun Life added to our existing direct billing options—including Pacific Blue Cross and TELUS eClaims (including Canada Life, Green Shield, Manulife, and others)—we hope to make accessing counselling a little easier, softer, and more streamlined.
Direct billing means that, whenever possible, clients can attend their session and leave knowing the administrative piece has already been taken care of. No additional paperwork. No managing claims after the fact. Just space to focus on your well-being and the support you are receiving.
This update applies to clients across Vancouver, Victoria, the Lower Mainland, and the many remote and rural communities we serve throughout British Columbia. Whether someone is meeting with a Registered Clinical Counsellor in person or accessing online therapy in BC, this expansion of direct billing is another step toward reducing financial and logistical obstacles.
For some, this change may make the difference between delaying care and beginning therapy when it’s most needed. For others, it offers a sense of ease—one less task on an already full plate. We know the path toward support can feel vulnerable, and we want it to feel as accessible and supported as possible.

How Direct Billing to Sun Life Works
If your Sun Life plan includes coverage for counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in British Columbia, we can submit your claim directly at the time of your appointment. This means you are only responsible for any portion of the session fee that is not covered by your benefits.
To get started with direct billing, simply let your counsellor know before your session. They will gather the necessary information and set everything up on their end. Once your plan is confirmed, we will submit each claim on your behalf after your appointment.
Every Sun Life plan is different, so we encourage clients to confirm their coverage details—including yearly limits, required credentials, and percentage of coverage—by contacting Sun Life directly. This helps ensure there are no surprises and allows you to understand exactly what your plan provides.
Direct billing is available for both in-person and online counselling sessions. Our intention is to make accessing therapy as straightforward and supported as possible.
