What Being ICBC Registered Means
Being ICBC registered means a counsellor is able to work with ICBC clients under the ICBC recovery system. In practical terms, it means Alex Henderson and Olivia Robillard can now provide counselling for clients with an active ICBC claim, and Nimble can bill ICBC directly for covered sessions. That helps reduce barriers to starting therapy after an accident and makes the process feel a little more manageable during a stressful time.
Under ICBC’s current early access treatment model, people injured in a crash in B.C. can access 12 pre-approved counselling sessions within the first 12 weeks after the crash. You do not need a doctor’s referral to begin. You do need your ICBC claim number and Personal Health Number (PHN) to get started.
If your recovery takes longer than those first 12 weeks, additional treatment may still be available. In those cases, your care team can communicate with your ICBC recovery specialist about what ongoing support is needed.
What Is ICBC Counselling?
ICBC counselling is therapy for people recovering from the emotional and psychological effects of a motor vehicle accident. After a crash, people may experience anxiety, panic, fear of driving, sleep disruption, low mood, stress, trauma responses, or a lingering sense that their nervous system has not settled. ICBC-funded counselling offers support for these kinds of symptoms so recovery is not limited to physical injuries alone.
At Nimble, ICBC counselling is offered through a trauma-informed, client-centred lens. The goal is not to rush you or force a certain timeline, but to support you in making sense of what happened, processing the impact, and building steadiness as you move forward. Nimble offers both in-person counselling in downtown Vancouver and online counselling across BC, giving clients flexibility in how they access care.
With Alex and Olivia now ICBC registered, clients have more options for finding a therapist at Nimble who feels like the right fit. Alex is a Registered Clinical Counsellor whose approach is gentle, down to earth, trauma-informed, and tailored to the individual. Olivia is also a Registered Clinical Counsellor, with areas of interest including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, emotional regulation, relationship challenges, and boundaries.
How to Access It
Starting ICBC counselling is usually quite straightforward:
Open an ICBC claim after your accident and receive your claim number.
Book with an ICBC-approved counsellor at Nimble Counselling.
Have your claim number and PHN ready for your first appointment.
Attend your sessions and let your counsellor support you through the emotional side of recovery. At Nimble, direct billing to ICBC is available for covered sessions.
If you are not sure where to begin, reaching out for a consultation can help. Sometimes the hardest part is simply taking the first step after a difficult experience. Support can begin there.
